What's the purpose of GPS module?

A Meshtastic device with GPS module works independently of your phone. It continues sharing your location even if your phone battery dies, is turned off, or is not connected. It provides reliable, low-power, continuous tracking, can operate headless, and is better suited for long-term, outdoor, and off-grid use than just relying on a smartphone GPS.

How far can Meshtastic nodes communicate?

- In our testing, we achieved max range of 220 km (136 miles). Range depends heavily on terrain and setup:

- Urban / obstructed areas: 0.5 – 1.5 km (~0.5 – 1 mile) per hop

- Suburban / open spaces: 1.5 – 5 km (1 – 3 miles)

- Rural / line-of-sight with good antennas: 15+ km (10+ miles )

- Longer coverage is achievable by chaining multiple nodes via mesh hopping.

- Line-of-sight dependency: Hills, trees, and buildings reduce range.
